This book was my text book when I studied Wisdom Literature in my Degree and I loved it. I have highlighted the whole book. This book changed the way I read Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Job and really brought them to life. Being a “historical context” girl I normally find Wisdom literature in the Bible overwhelming and hard to understand but Murphy explains them with such ease and wisdom (excuse the pun) that the creative imagery and seemingly overwhelming themes within these books are easily explained and highlighted. When you read this book, you have to remember it is a text book so it is quite weighty and meaty (not a light read at all!) but if you want to venture further into the Wisdom Literature of the Bible including Ecclesiasticus and Wisdom of Solomon – this is the book to help you!
