The book of Haggai is set in the time after the Israelites had been in exile, and Zerubbabel is called back to Jerusalem to build the temple. Because of their enemies, the building stopped for seventeen years, until Haggai steps in and stirs them again to begin to rebuild. Read his words of encouragement that saw the Second Temple in Jerusalem built and the remnant return.
H 1:2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the LORD’S house.’”
As you read your Bible, there will be times when you are just eating your vegetables, meaning there will be times when we read the chapters without any feeling of personal revelation. It’s just the straight fresh, word of God going into our lives like eating a full plate of vegetables, providing nutrients and building us for the future.
In this Deep Dive I want to explore two topics found in Haggai that at times can seem a little confusing, overwhelming and that challenge our knowledge of God and his grace and sovereignty of our lives and the nations.
