Day 2: Engage With The Authors.
Engage with the Authors.
John 20:4 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.
Reflection
As you read the Bible, you can miss the funny moments that the authors have put into their stories, especially if you only read verse by verse. Remember, the Bible is alive and active, and as you read it, it will make you laugh and it will make you cry. The above verse is found in a pinnacle section of the life of Jesus found in John 20:1-10. Jesus has just died, and the author, John, is describing the moment that he and Peter find the tomb empty. This is the resurrection, the most powerful moment in our salvation history, but John, being John, decides to intertwine this moment with a running race between himself (aka the beloved disciple) and Peter. The most important moment in history, but just so we know, John won the race to the tomb. Read it, it’s hysterical! Today, find the funny moments in the Bible that make you laugh.
Question
What was the last funny moment you read in your Bible?
Prayer
Lord, your Word is living and active. I pray that today we would find ourselves reading stories that would make us laugh. Let the authors’ intention and funny stories come through to us as we engage in this life-changing book. Let the joy of the Lord be our strength once again as we find life in your beautiful Word.
