Romans Dip - Day 3
DAY 3 - ALL UNDER THE POWER OF SIN
Romans 3:9-12 What shall we conclude then? Do we have any advantage? Not at all! For we have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under the power of sin. As it is written:
“There is no one righteous, not even one;
there is no one who understands;
there is no one who seeks God.
All have turned away,
they have together become worthless;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.”
We need to remember that we are saved by faith, there was nothing we could do to save ourselves before Christ came into our lives. Without Him, we found ourselves in bad circumstances, we were all under the power of sin, no one righteous, no one who was good enough. You can’t say ‘I’ve lived a good life’ or ‘I have given to charity, surely that will save me’.
The power of sin is only broken by one thing: faith in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross. Jesus is the only door. Initiated by God, because He loved us so much, He gave His Son as a doorway to eternal life, freedom from sin, and life abundant.
So, in the above scripture, Paul, the great equaliser, is telling a divided church in Rome that nothing they did earned their salvation, not their ethnicity, not their thinking, not their righteousness by the law. Nothing but Jesus Christ can save you. You can’t earn salvation, you can’t clean yourself up for God, just come as you are. A sinner in need of grace!
Now the great news is we are all saved the same way: Romans 3:24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. We all need his grace and we can all freely receive his grace through belief in Jesus Christ! I love that Paul doesn’t leave us with the problem but tells us the answer, the answer is Jesus!
