DAY 7 - SAY HELLO TO THE GANG, I’M COMING SOON

LETTER CONCLUSION: 15:14-16:27

Romans 16:1 I commend to you our sister Phoebe, a deacon of the church in Cenchreae. I ask you to receive her in the Lord in a way worthy of his people and to give her any help she may need from you, for she has been the benefactor of many people, including me.

Just like the openings to his letters, Paul’s closings are also super important to read. Take note of the names and things that he mentions in his closing. This is a church that Paul had not planted and had never met, a church that Paul was presenting his ‘thesis’ paper of the gospel message to in the hope to move his base from Antioch to their church in Rome. A church that Paul wants to impress. If you were in that position in a 1st Century Roman society, would you send a female to present your letter? Paul sends Phoebe to deliver this letter to the church in Rome, and she is a deacon and a benefactor of Paul (meaning she has the money to fund Paul’s ministry).

Take some time and study Phoebe, she is an incredible female in the Bible that Paul trusts to represent him with this incredible letter to the church in Rome. There is so much more in the final chapter of Paul, even a relative of Herod the Great makes an appearance. Check it out!
