Swap Anxiety for Peace

Philippians 4:6-7 (NKJV) Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

One verse that has been going over and over in my mind is Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything pray and give thanks. I love that the Bible makes these declarations, statements of faith, that have no room for doubt – be anxious for nothing is a pretty final statement. Not one thing – don’t be anxious about toilet paper, don’t be anxious about your job, food, the economy but pray and give thanks to God. In other words, don’t be anxious, just get God involved! And in doing this, God will give you peace that goes beyond your understanding!

It’s simple: don’t be anxious, talk to God about it, let Him know what you need and He will give you peace!

Sounds easy, but it is actually quite a hard thing to do. It means a decision to believe God over the news, believe God over the panic at the supermarkets, believe God over the anxiety that I get when I talk to my neighbour or friends. But try it: talk to God about it, let Him know your fear and then allow Him to give you peace. The peace that will go beyond your own understanding, the peace that will be the light in a dark place. It’s a peace that you will be able to share with your neighbours, your friends, and your family. When the world is in anxiety, we are called to live in the peace that God gives our hearts and minds.

So let this verse go over and over in your head today, and as it does, remember: don’t sit in anxiety, get God involved and let Him give you peace that goes beyond your thinking!
