Ephesians Dip - Day 5
DAY 5 - IDENTITY MARKER 5 - ESTABLISHED BY GRACE
EPHESIANS 2:8-10 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Your identity is built on sinking sand if it is established upon a foundation of works or personal achievement. Our identity in Christ is strongly built upon the grace that we have been given. We stand in Him because of grace, we are saved because of grace, and this is not from ourselves, as Paul says. Not by our works, not by our religious living, not by our moral lives but purely because God loved us, gave His Son for us, and we by faith believed. What a revelation! What a strong sense of identity that cannot be taken away from us.
Your works do not establish your identity, your job does not establish your identity; your ministry, your kindness, your behaviour don’t establish who you are. These things can disappear or be taken away and you are still strongly established in Him. Because it is by grace that we have been saved, so that we don’t boast in our works, but in God’s beautiful, amazing gift! (Ephesians 2:8)
And why have we been given this gift? It’s not for ourselves, but intended for us to do good works, which God has prepared for us to do. Now I hear you saying, “Katie, didn’t you just say that I wasn’t saved by good works?”. Yep! But you are saved for good works. You are saved for something, you are saved for a purpose and future that God has prepared for you. Don’t waste the gift you have been given, use it for God’s glory!
