Ephesians Dip - Day 6
DAY 6 - IDENTITY MARKER 6 - STRONG IN OUR COMMUNITY
Ephesians 4:3-7 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
Paul continues our journey of identity in Ephesians with a strong sense of community. Our identity is strongly knitted together in the Kingdom – one body, one Spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God. You can’t miss how many times Paul says ‘one’ in these verses. It brings a sense of unity, power, strength, community. We are strong as one. Your identity in Christ is strong, and becomes stronger in Church community.
It is in community where we grow, we are discipled, we find strength when we are weak, hope when we are hopeless, light when we are in darkness. I love going to church and standing with my brother and sisters in Christ and worshipping God. But this oneness is not done with ease, Paul says ‘Make every effort’ meaning it’s going to take effort at times to remain in community. You are going to have to go to Church when you don’t want to, go to connect group when you don’t feel like it. You are going to have to forgive when you are offended.
Community gives us strength, as God is one so we are called to be one. I love the sense of ‘oneness'. One is a sold structure that cannot be broken, divided or defeated. Paul wants you to know that you don’t fight alone, that you fight together as one body, and to be strong in that community identity.
